A message from Michael Smith


I am an organisational analyst and expert in marketing, data, commercial performance and promotions. I established Red Page Consulting in 2009 as a supplier of pragmatic, no-nonsense consultancy to publishers, academic institutions and charitable organisations. I specialise particularly in message, database/CRM integration and performance, customer experience and brand credibility.

My fundamental belief is that any marketing claim must be demonstrably true and is reflected by what the customer experiences. Customer experience, organisational performance and brand credibility lie at the heart of my approach.

Some history


Before I began my consultancy work, I was a marketing and business development director for publishers Kogan Page, and Group Marketing Director at the Informa Publishing Group. I have held senior marketing positions for companies which include Lexis Nexis, and IBC Publishing. My team management experience includes direct marketing, promotions, public relations, database marketing, direct marketing, telemarketing and field sales.

I hold an honours degree in History from the University of York; later studying there for an MA in Medieval Literature and Languages. My professional qualifications include the Advanced Certificate in Marketing and the Postgraduate Diploma in Marketing from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) and pricing certification from the Professional Pricing Society, Atlanta Georgia. 

I am also a published author and acclaimed translator of two fourteenth century Middle English works: Sir Gawain and the Green Knight (2018) and the Alliterative Morte Arthure (2020). My next work, a translation of William of Palerne, should publish in 2022.
